KVO UV filter ban 2024 – What does this mean for Doriana Cosmetics?

On April 3, 2024, a new ban on certain UV filters was passed under the Cosmetics Regulation (KVO) , which has attracted a lot of attention in the cosmetics industry. The term “sunblocker” in particular is currently the focus of discussion. But how does this ban affect the Products from Doriana Cosmetics GmbH ? Here we explain why our UV gel is not affected by this ban.

The current UV filter ban: What exactly was decided?

Under the current amendments to the Cosmetics Regulation, certain ingredients used as UV filters in sunscreens and similar products have been banned or severely restricted. This decision is based on health and environmental concerns about the effects of some chemical compounds that were previously widely used in sunscreens.

Many consumers are now unsure which products are affected and whether they can continue to use cosmetic products that contain UV filters without any concerns. The term "sunblocker" in particular is causing confusion.

Doriana Cosmetics and our UV gel: No need to worry

Our customers can rest assured: The new ban does not affect the UV gel from Doriana Cosmetics GmbH. The reason for this is the special composition of our products. While the ban refers to certain UV filters, we use a completely different active ingredient in our gel to protect the product from discoloration and at the same time ensure a long shelf life.

The substance 4-Methylbenzylidene Camphor (INCI: 4-Methylbenzylidene Camphor , CAS No. 36861-47-9/38102-62-4 ), which is not contained in our UV gel, is still permitted in cosmetic products. This substance is listed in Annex VI of Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 under entry 18. It may be used as a UV filter in a concentration of up to 4% in ready-to-use cosmetic formulations.

Why do we use sunblock in UV gel?

Our own UV filter, e.g. in Top Coat or French White, serves as a UV absorber and light stabilizer in our UV gel. These properties prevent the gel from discoloring or losing its effect when exposed to sunlight. This is particularly important for long-lasting color brilliance and nail protection. The substance is regulated in accordance with Article 14 paragraph 1 letter e number ii of Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 and remains permitted up to a concentration of 4%.

Our use of this substance is completely within legal regulations. Therefore, our UV gel is safe and legally compliant . Not only does it protect against discoloration, but it also remains a reliable choice for our customers.

Conclusion: Doriana Cosmetics remains legally compliant and safe

The new KVO regulations on the UV filter ban affect many products on the market, but our UV gels are not affected by this ban. We use sunblockers that we manufacture ourselves to ensure the high quality of our products and colors. Our customers can therefore trust that our products meet legal requirements and are safe.

We would also like to point out that you can purchase ideal sun protection from our partner company that complies with the latest legal regulations. This offers comprehensive protection against harmful UV radiation, while our UV gels continue to protect your nails from discoloration. This means you are well looked after all round - for skin and nails!

If you have any further questions about our products or the effects of the KVO changes, please do not hesitate to contact us.
