Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that uses very fine, small needles to create tiny micro-injuries on the surface of the skin. The aim of the procedure is to stimulate natural skin regeneration and thereby improve the skin's appearance. Here is a detailed description:
1. Functionality
Microneedling involves moving a dermaroller or electronic dermapen with fine needles over the skin. These needles penetrate the top layer of skin (epidermis) and penetrate into the second layer of skin (dermis) to create microchannels. These channels activate the body's own wound healing, which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. These proteins are important for the firmness, elasticity and youthful glow of the skin.
2. Benefits of Microneedling
- Improvement of the skin's appearance : The skin becomes smoother, finer and more even.
- Wrinkle reduction : Small wrinkles and lines can be reduced by building up collagen.
- Pore refinement : The size of the pores is reduced, resulting in a finer skin texture.
- Scar treatment : Particularly suitable for the treatment of acne and surgical scars.
- Pigmentation and skin irregularities : Helps lighten hyperpigmentation, age spots and sun spots.
- Skin tightening : The skin becomes more elastic and firmer, which can also help with slight sagging skin.
- Better absorption of active ingredients : The microchannels enable improved absorption of serums and care products, allowing active ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin.
3. Areas of application
Microneedling is often used on the face, but can also be performed on other parts of the body, such as the décolleté, hands or even the scalp.
4. Implementation and follow-up
The treatment is usually carried out in professional beauty salons or dermatological practices. A gentle numbing cream can be applied to relieve pain. After the treatment, the skin may be slightly red, similar to a mild sunburn. Cooling and soothing creams help to regenerate the skin.
5. Treatment frequency
To achieve optimal results, microneedling is often performed in several sessions, depending on the skin type and desired result. About 3 to 6 sessions, each 4 to 6 weeks apart, are usual.
6. Notes and risks
- Not suitable for sensitive skin types or skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis.
- Sun protection is important after treatment because the skin is more sensitive.
- Side effects : Mild redness, swelling or flaking skin are normal but usually go away after a few days.
Microneedling is an effective, gentle method for skin renewal and rejuvenation and is often chosen as an alternative to stronger, more invasive treatments.
